Growing up in the early 90s in an ex-Warsaw Pact country sets one up with a very odd understanding of the “American Dream”. To many of us it represented the ultimate goal: freedom of speech, self-determination and economical and social mobility. This was the reality I saw during my first trip to New York. As I was walking the streets, I couldn't stop humming Sting's “Englishman In New York” while pondering my own identity.
